Anyone else notice Revolutionary Road and American Beauty are very Similar?

I know Revolutionary Road was written way back in the 60s but just thought it was interesting that American Beauty and Revolutionary Road has a similar theme and situations but just one is based in the 50-60s while the other is more modern.

I gather American Beauty was inspired by Revolutionary Road and i personally feel American Beauty is a better crafted version of what it is trying to get across to the audience.Anyone else notice Revolutionary Road and American Beauty are very Similar?
I didn't see Revolutionary Road but I'll take your word for it. I do know, (after taking lots of writting classes and writing myself)

There only about 45 plots in the world, (some people say 20 others say 100) the number itself doesn't matter because the number itself is finate. just like west side story was a more modern version of Romeo %26amp; juliet, and the fugitive was valjean's POV from Les Miserabes every plot has been used somewhere in some story.

that doesn't mean that anyone should quit writing just becuase all plots are variations on other ones. the success lies in how well the writters craft thier story. some do it well while others don't.

Revolutionary Road might have influenced American beauty either directly, (like maybe the director loved that movie) or indirectlly. (saw it as a kid and it stayed with him.)Anyone else notice Revolutionary Road and American Beauty are very Similar?
1. Sam Mendes directed both films. 2. IMO, ';Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?'; might be a closer approximation to ';Revolutionary Road,'; in terms of flavor. I see some comparisons between ';American Beauty'; and RR in the scope of the cinematics and music, however, RR is a more dialogue driven piece. Report Abuse
